How Helio teaches

It talks, draws each step on a board, and listens.

Get started

A lesson, start to finish

  1. Pick a topic, or ask

Choose a unit from a course, or say what you need.

  2. Helio teaches out loud

It explains and draws each step as it talks.

  3. Your child's turn

They answer out loud, type, or write on the board.

  4. Back again later

Helio brings a skill back days later, so it sticks.

Talk, or type

Your child talks as they would with a person. They can type instead.

  • Six voices

Pick the voice your child likes best.

  • Three speeds

Slow, medium or fast. Change it during a lesson.

  • Words on screen

Captions show what Helio says, as it says it.

Drawn as it is said

Helio writes, draws and marks each step on the board while it talks.

  • Math by hand

Equations, fractions and graphs, one step at a time.

  • Science, drawn

Cells, forces and molecules, with their parts named.

  • A pen for your child

They can write, erase and undo on the same board.

Jump in any time

Say wait, ask why, or circle something. Helio stops and listens.

Every math step checked

A checker tests each math step, Helio's and your child's.

  • If a check runs late

A step found wrong later is erased and fixed out loud.

  • Honest outside math

In other subjects Helio can be wrong. It is fine to ask why.

When your child is stuck

The smallest hint first. More help only if it is needed.

  1. A nudge

A mark on the board points the way.

  2. A hint

The idea again, shown a new way.

  3. One step shown

Helio starts a step. Your child finishes it.

  4. The whole step

A full example, then a fresh problem to try.

Help with homework

Take a photo of the page. Helio reads the problems, and you work through them.

  • Phone, upload or camera

Scan a code to use a phone as the camera.

  • Up to ten pages

Take the problems in any order, or save one for later.

  • Photos are not kept

Pages are deleted when the lesson ends. Only the problems stay.

Made for each learner

  • Three ways to learn

Listen first, a bit of each, or hands-on from the start.

  • Breaks for kids

Younger children are offered a break along the way.

  • Easy to see

Larger text, light or dark, and less motion.

Progress in plain words

No points or scores. Each skill gets a word that says where it stands.

  1. Just started
  2. Practicing
  3. Getting there
  4. Solid
  5. Remembers it

Questions

Does Helio just give the answer?

No. It teaches the steps, then hands your child the pen.

Can my child type instead of talking?

Yes. They can type, or choose to write their answers on the board.

Can Helio help with homework?

Yes. Take a photo of up to ten pages, and work through the problems together.

Is Helio always right?

Not always. Outside math it can be wrong, so ask why.

What does my child need?

A tablet or computer with a mic, and a quiet spot.

How long is a session?

Most lessons take 15 to 20 minutes.
